Inspired by Elsie of A Beautiful Mess, I tried my own No New Clothes Challenge from November 2019 to October 2020. I had three reasons: the environmental impact of fast-fashion really bothers me, I want to minimize frivolous spending, and I wanted to be more content with what I have.
My rules:
- I will not spend money on new clothing or shoes for 12 months. This includes dresses, jeans, shoes, coats, etc. I will, however, allow myself to buy new underwear, tights, bras, swimwear, etc. if I need to. (I’m not THAT strict.)
- I CAN spend money on second-hand and vintage items on sites like Poshmark and ThredUp. (Photo above is a vintage 60’s dress I bought for $40.) I can also rent from Rent the Runway. (Photo below is a t-shirt I rented from Rent the Runway.)
